Fixed Flange towbars are the most common towbars on the market today and usually one of the cheapest types of towbar, This is where the tow ball is bolted to the tow bar with two 24mm bolts. Fixed Flange tow bars are the most versatile tow bar design as they can be used with tow ball mounted accessories such as bumper protectors, stabilizers, cycle carriers etc.
Detachable Flanged Towbar have all the benefits of the fixed flange towbar with the addition that it can be removed when not in use to make the vehicle appear to not have a towbar fitted. These are one of the least common towbar on the market today also being generally more expensive than fixed flange it does have its benefits for instance once removed you will never cause injury your shins.
Swan neck towbars are by far the most common style towbar fitted in the E.U this is where the towbar and neck is all one piece and looks more pleasing to the eye compared to the flanged type towbar also with the swan neck towbar the neck shaft coming up to the tow ball is narrower meaning it is less likely to trigger a reverse parking aid
Detatchable Swan Neck towbars have all the great advantages as the Swan Neck with the addition that the neck is detatchable from the vehicle.
We supply and fit two types of towbar connections which are 7 pin single electrics and 13 pin twin electrics which is a modern version of the 12n and 12s towing connections.
7 Pin single Connection is generally used for cycle carriers, trailers and caravans without a 12v fridge.
13 Pin Connections Is the most modern style of towing socket in the E.U these are commonly used on all caravans built after 2008. the modern 13 pin socket replaces the twin electrics connection essentially converting the twin to a single connection.
Vehciles Fitted with CanBus wiring on the lighting system will require a bypass relay to be fitted between the vehicle and the tow bar electrical connection. The CanBus Bypass Relay detects which lights have been activated from the CanBus feeds and sends power to the correct connection at the towbar.
Split charge relays are commonly fitted to 13 pin electrics to provide a live feed to the fridge, towing stabilizer and on board leisure battery whilst the caravan is in transit.
Dedicated wiring kits fit your car perfectly but can be pricey, These kits are normally fitted when a vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty.
